U.S. offers credits to China, Indonesia

WASHINGTON (Reuter): The U.S. Agriculture Department said it offered a total of US$345 million in export credit guarantees to China, Indonesia, Slovakia, Poland and 19 African countries for fiscal 1996.

Indonesia was offered $160 million to assist in buying U.S. farm goods, China $100 million, Poland $25 million, Slovakia $10 million and Southern African nations $50 million.

All credits would come from USDA's GSM-102 short-term credit program.

Indonesia was offered credits for purchase of oilseeds, wheat, flour, feed grains, cotton, rice, protein meal, frozen or chilled meat, almonds, walnuts, potatoes, barley malt, hides and skins, and farm-raised brine shrimp eggs.

China was offered credits for purchases of oilseeds, wheat, feed grains, vegetable oil, cotton, solid wood products, wood pulp, wood chips, protein meals, potatoes, hops, hop extract, wool, mohair, and hides and skins.

Poland was offered credits for wheat, feed grains, oilseeds, protein meal, solid wood products, planting seeds, chilled or frozen meat, cotton and potatoes.

Slovakia was offered credits for planting seeds, wheat, rice, protein meal, oilseeds, cotton, breeder livestock, and hides and skins.

Southern African nations were offered credits for oilseeds, wheat, breeder livestock, feed grains, dairy products, vegetable oils, almonds and walnuts.

The 19 nations in the Southern African region were Angola, Botswana, Burundi, Kenya, Lesotho, Madagascar, Malawi, Mauritius, Mozambique, Namibia, Rwanda, Seychelles, South Africa, Swaziland, Tanzania, Uganda, Zaire, Zambia and Zimbabwe.
