US Military Proposes Plan to Seize Iran's Enriched Uranium
Washington (ANTARA) - The Pentagon has offered a plan to seize Iran’s enriched nuclear uranium material to President Donald Trump, The Washington Post reported on Wednesday, citing sources.
The plan was presented last week at Trump’s request and would require a complex, high-risk, and time-consuming operation, such as deploying hundreds to thousands of troops and heavy equipment via air routes to extract the radioactive material—something that has never been done before.
“You would have to get digging equipment, breach concrete and lead shielding… and then somehow reach the bottom of that silo, extract the containers holding the nuclear material, and fly them out,” one anonymous source familiar with the matter told The Washington Post.
In an interview with CBS on Tuesday, Trump refused to answer whether he would declare victory in the operation against Iran without extracting the enriched uranium reserves.
Trump said he was not even thinking about it, adding that the uranium is “buried very deep” and “would be very difficult for anyone.”
Last year, precisely on the night of 13 June, Israel attacked Iran with accusations that Tehran was running a secret military nuclear programme. Iran denied the accusations and retaliated with an attack.
Then, on 23 June, Trump announced that Israel and Iran had reached a ceasefire to end the “12-day war.”
Subsequently, on 28 February 2026, the United States and Israel launched attacks on several targets in Iran, including in Tehran, causing damage and civilian casualties.
Iran then retaliated by attacking Israeli territory as well as US military facilities in the Middle East.
