US Military Not Yet Prepared to Escort Ships Through Strait of Hormuz
Moscow (ANTARA) - US Energy Secretary Chris Wright stated on Thursday that the American military is not yet prepared to escort ships through the Strait of Hormuz.
“We are not ready. All of our military assets are currently focused on destroying Iran’s offensive capabilities and the manufacturing industry that provides their offensive capabilities,” Wright told CNBC.
American operations against Iran will be operations lasting several weeks rather than several months, according to the Energy Secretary.
When asked whether the US Navy would escort some ships through the strait by late March, Wright said that would likely be the case.
“That is what the military is working on,” he said.
On 28 February, the United States and Israel launched attacks against targets in Iran, causing damage and civilian casualties.
Iran subsequently retaliated by attacking Israeli territory and US military facilities in the Middle East.
The United States and Israel initially claimed their attacks were necessary to counter a threat they considered to emanate from Iran’s nuclear programme.
However, they subsequently clarified that the attacks were conducted because they wanted to see a change of power in Iran.
