U.S. keyboard player detained

JAKARTA (JP): The Central Jakarta Immigration Office is still
investigating Paul Edward, an American keyboard player who was
arrested at the Assembly Hall of the Jakarta Hilton Convention
Center on Dec. 31 for abusing his stay permit.

Edward is a member of a jazz band whose lead singer is Patti
Austin, a noted black American singer. He came to Indonesia on
Dec. 30 on a visitors visa (BV-KS), which cannot be used for
business purposes.

According to Faud Djapar of the Immigration Office, the
investigation on Edward will be completed in three or four days.

The Chief of Central Jakarta Immigration Office, M. Soelarman,
was quoted by Suara Pembaruan daily on Wednesday as saying that
there are 300 legal foreign performers here from the United
States, the Philippines, Italy, Singapore, the Netherlands,
Brazil and various other countries.(mas)
