US-Israel Attack on Iran: Garuda Indonesia Suspends Flights to Doha
Garuda Indonesia, Indonesia’s national carrier, has suspended flights to and from Doha effective from 28 February until further notice.
The decision was taken as a result of Qatar’s closure of its airspace following attacks by the United States and Israel on Iran. Garuda Indonesia stated the measure was implemented as a precautionary step prioritising flight safety and security.
The airline confirmed that other international routes remain operational and do not traverse the war-affected regions between the US, Israel, and Iran.
Affected passengers have been advised to regularly check flight schedules through Garuda Indonesia’s 24-hour Contact Centre at 021-2351 9999 / 0804 1 807 807 or via garuda-indonesia.com.
Airspace closures across parts of the Middle East were implemented following military strikes launched by the US and Israel against Iran on Saturday morning, 28 February 2026. According to Agence France-Presse, two explosions were reported in Tehran. The United States acknowledged its involvement in the strikes through officials and other sources aware of the operation.
The attacks occurred as the US deployed a significant naval and air force contingent to the region to pressure Iran into reaching an agreement concerning its nuclear programme.
During the strikes, Iran’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei was killed at his residence alongside his daughter, son-in-law, and grandson.
According to Al Jazeera, at least eight countries announced airspace closures when the conflict erupted on Saturday, 28 February 2026: Iran, Israel, Iraq, Jordan, Qatar, Bahrain, Kuwait, and the United Arab Emirates. Syria also announced a 12-hour partial closure of airspace in the south along its border with Israel.
With regional countries closing their airspace, numerous aircraft have been forced to reroute through alternative hubs including Larnaca, Jeddah, Cairo, and Riyadh.
