The United States (US) and Iran have resumed hostilities after weeks of ceasefire. Deputy Chairman of the DPR’s Commission I, Dave Laksono, has urged the Indonesian government to remain vigilant, particularly regarding energy supplies.

Dave initially commented on the renewed conflict between the US and Iran, stating that the instability in the Middle East has led to its resurgence.

‘Recent developments in the Middle East, particularly the resumption of armed conflict between the US and Iran following a ceasefire, underscore the fragility of regional stability,’ Dave stated when contacted on Friday, 29 May 2026.

Dave also highlighted the mutual attacks between the two nations in the Strait of Hormuz, noting that the conflict there would impact Indonesia.

‘Mutual attacks, including in the strategic Strait of Hormuz, clearly pose serious implications for global security and international trade flows, which directly and indirectly affect Indonesia’s interests,’ he said.

Therefore, Dave urged the Indonesian government to remain vigilant on energy supplies. He also called for Indonesia to uphold its free and active foreign policy while strengthening international cooperation and protecting Indonesian citizens in conflict zones.

‘Commission I of the DPR affirms Indonesia’s commitment to its free and active foreign policy, oriented towards global peace and respect for international law. In facing this uncertainty, the government must prepare comprehensive anticipatory measures, from protecting Indonesian citizens in the region and safeguarding national assets to strengthening international cooperation to ensure energy supply and trade route stability,’ he stated.

Regarding the ongoing conflict, Dave suggested Indonesia should prioritise diplomacy with both parties. He noted Indonesia’s track record in fostering peace.

‘Intensive diplomacy, through both bilateral and multilateral channels, is key to de-escalating tensions and preventing the conflict from spreading. Indonesia has a proven record as a dialogue bridge-builder, and we are confident that its active contributions will help create space for peaceful resolution,’ he added.

It is known that the US military launched new strikes on Iran on Thursday morning. The attacks targeted locations near the Strait of Hormuz, posing a threat to US forces and commercial traffic, according to a US official.

In response, Iran’s military reportedly fired warning shots at vessels attempting to pass through the Strait of Hormuz.

‘Four vessels attempted to pass through the Strait of Hormuz and enter the Persian Gulf without coordinating with the security forces responsible for the strait,’ reported several government-affiliated media outlets, cited by CNN International on Thursday, 28 May.

‘They were warned, and after ignoring the warning, warning shots were fired, forcing them to turn back,’ according to the report.
