US-Iran Ceasefire, Pertamina Seeks to Get Ships Out of Strait of Hormuz
JAKARTA - PT Pertamina International Shipping is endeavouring to have two of its vessels in the Arabian Gulf cross the Strait of Hormuz. This step is being taken amid news of a ceasefire between the United States and Iran. The two vessels are the VLCC Pertamina Pride, which is carrying crude oil for domestic needs, and Gamsunoro, which is serving consumer cargo. “Both PIS-owned vessels currently in the Arabian Gulf are still being facilitated to cross the Strait of Hormuz,” said Acting Corporate Secretary of PIS, Vega Pita, in a statement on Wednesday (8/4/2026). Monitoring of the Middle East situation is conducted around the clock. Technical preparations are also being discussed to ensure the crossing proceeds smoothly. “The company’s priority remains the safety of all crew members, as well as the security of the vessels and their cargo. We ask for prayers and support from all Indonesians so that this process can be resolved well,” Vega stated. US President Donald Trump previously announced a two-week ceasefire. This policy is accompanied by the condition of reopening the Strait of Hormuz. That route is a vital path for about 20 per cent of the global oil supply. During the ongoing conflict, Iran blockaded shipping access in the Strait of Hormuz. Only vessels from several countries were permitted to pass.
