U.S. investment in Indonesia

I am writing in response to Soegih Arto's letter to the editor
of March 6, 1996, and your response. In his remarks on RCTI,
Ambassador Roy stated that the U.S. is the largest foreign
investor in Indonesia if the oil, gas and financial sectors are
included in the totals.

The BKPM figures you cite do not include these totals, and the
majority of U.S. investment in Indonesia has been in the oil and
gas sector. In fact, U.S. companies have invested in
approximately 50 oil and gas fields throughout Indonesia. We
believe that when these investments are included, the U.S. is,
indeed, the largest foreign investor in Indonesia.
