US Claims Two Ships Successfully Cross Strait of Hormuz, Iran Responds Thus
Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) has confirmed that not a single commercial ship crossed the Strait of Hormuz throughout Monday (4 May). This assertion refutes the United States’ claim that two US-flagged trading vessels passed through the vital waterway.
“No commercial ships or oil tankers crossed the Strait of Hormuz in the last few hours,” the IRGC emphasised in a statement via Telegram, as reported by AFP on Tuesday (5 May 2026).
“The claims by US officials are unfounded and entirely incorrect,” the IRGC statement added.
Shipping activity through the Strait of Hormuz, a strategic waterway for global oil and gas supplies, has been severely disrupted since the war erupted between Iran, the US, and Israel on 28 February.
In an announcement on 2 March, the IRGC declared the Strait of Hormuz closed to maritime traffic.
This measure has restricted passage through the vital waterway, shaking global energy markets and raising concerns over prolonged economic damage.
Prior to the war, the Strait of Hormuz was typically used by about one-fifth of the world’s oil supply.
In a separate statement, Iran’s Army Commander Amir Hatami issued the latest warning to US military ships daring to approach the Strait of Hormuz.
“US destroyer ships, using the deadly radar-jamming trick, are sailing towards the Strait of Hormuz, but our response is gunfire,” Hatami said in a statement via social media platform X.
“Cruise missiles and combat drones have been launched. The security of this region is Iran’s red line,” he stressed.
Previously, the US military claimed that several US guided-missile destroyers had passed through the Strait of Hormuz and entered the Gulf waters as part of a new mission to restore maritime traffic.
The US Central Command (CENTCOM), which oversees US military operations in the Middle East region, claimed that: “Two US-flagged commercial ships have successfully transited the Strait of Hormuz and are safely continuing their journey.”
