US and Israel Attack Iran, Ex-Foreign Minister Says Indonesia and Other Countries Face Dilemma
Jakarta – Former Indonesian Foreign Minister Hassan Wirajuda says Indonesia and other countries are in a dilemma in responding to the United States and Israel’s attack on Iran. To address the dilemma, President Prabowo Subianto invited former presidents and vice presidents, prominent diplomats, and the general chairs of political parties on Tuesday, 3 March 2026. “This is a matter and a dilemma that we face, confronted by many countries, not just ourselves. Therefore, the President considers it important to communicate the issues faced by the government to us, whom the President asked to attend this evening,” Hassan said after a meeting at the Presidential Palace Complex, Jakarta, on Tuesday night, 3 March 2026, as quoted by Kompas TV. “The potential impact of this war on the global economy, particularly relating to supply, oil and gas, has been calculated for our considerations from that perspective,” Hassan explained. In the meeting, Hassan said, the President was mapping how Indonesia should navigate the world, not just around two reefs, but several reefs now, and that is not easy. “The President gave an update briefing on a range of latest world developments, especially those that have long been of concern for many of us, namely the most recent developments — specifically the progression of the US and Israel’s attack on Iran,” Hassan said. Earlier reports said Israel attacked Tehran, Iran, on the morning of Saturday, 28 February 2026. The Associated Press reported that the strike occurred near the office of Iran’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei. The United States (US) was also involved in the attack, according to several US officials and other sources familiar with the operation. Now Tasnim and Fars News Agencies have confirmed the death of Ayatollah Ali Khamenei. However, no details of his death have been announced. Following Khamenei’s death, Iran declared 40 days of mourning and seven days of national holidays.
