US and Iran Agree on Ceasefire, Netanyahu Vows to Continue War
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu remains determined to continue the war against Iran. This was stated by Netanyahu following the agreement between Iran and the United States (US) on a two-week ceasefire.
“Let me be clear: We still have objectives to accomplish, and we will achieve them—whether through agreement or renewed battle,” Netanyahu said in a statement broadcast on television, Wednesday (8/4/2026), quoted by Al Arabiya website.
He added that Israel is prepared to resume fighting whenever necessary. “Our finger remains on the trigger. This is not the end of the campaign, but a step towards achieving all our goals,” Netanyahu stated.
Iran and the US agreed to a two-week ceasefire on Tuesday (7/4/2026). The agreement was reached through mediation facilitated by Pakistan’s Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif.
Under the agreement, the US agreed to stop its attacks on Iran. In return, Iran must open access to the Strait of Hormuz. Tehran’s decision to strictly limit ship traffic through the strait is known to have caused a surge in global oil prices.
Iran agreed to open the Strait of Hormuz during the ceasefire period. However, ship traffic in those waters must still be coordinated by the Iranian military.
Iran also submitted a 10-point ceasefire proposal to the US. Its contents include the lifting of sanctions and the release of frozen Iranian funds and assets by the US, full payment of compensation for reconstruction costs due to the war, and a total halt to attacks, not only on Iran but also on Iraq, Lebanon, and Yemen.
According to Pakistan’s Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, the ceasefire agreement also applies to Lebanon, which is currently the target of Israeli aggression. However, Israel rejected this and continues to launch attacks on Lebanon.
