URI to Prepare Superior Human Resources to Support BPOM in Facing Modern Oversight Challenges
Jakarta (ANTARA) - The Rector of Universitas Republik Indonesia (URI), Donny Ermawan Taufanto, stated that the university will prepare human resources with strong intellectual and emotional capacities to strengthen the efforts of the Indonesian Food and Drug Authority (BPOM) in facing modern oversight challenges.
“No matter how good the system we build, how sophisticated the technology we use, and how well the regulations we draft, everything will depend heavily on the quality of human resources. Therefore, the development and strengthening of superior human resources must be one of the main focuses of national development,” he said in Jakarta on Monday.
Donny noted that various conditions, such as geopolitical instability, climate change, and technological advancements, demand increasingly strong abilities for adaptation and anticipation. He remarked that a country can no longer be managed using entirely conventional approaches.
“We need policies that are not only normatively good but also substantively appropriate, effective in implementation, and provide a real impact for the community. One of the main foundations of policy transformation is the application of evidence-based policy,” he said.
“In this context, data must serve as the basis for decision-making, science must be the reference, and evaluation must be the instrument to ensure policy effectiveness,” he added.
Therefore, Donny stated, it is essential to have competent human resources who can think critically, dare to innovate, possess integrity, and maintain empathy and commitment.
“Intelligence without integrity can lose direction, while integrity without competence can lose power. Therefore, both must go hand in hand,” he said.
Through the Asta Cita programme, President Prabowo Subianto is striving to develop human resources in the fields of science and technology through various strategic programmes, such as Sekolah Rakyat, Sekolah Garuda, and scholarships from the Indonesia Endowment Fund for Education (LPDP).
“In line with that, specifically regarding the development of superior State-Owned Enterprise (BUMN) talent, the Presidential Programme for Future Leaders (P3MD) is currently being implemented, involving 398 selected BUMN employees,” he said.
He concluded that all these programmes are essentially strategic investments to build superior human resources, ensuring that policies can demonstrate a real and measurable impact on the nation.
