The government has appointed a gratuities director at the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) as one of top officials at the upstream oil and gas regulator BPMigas.
Lambok Hamonangan Hutauruk was sworn in as BPMigas's deputy for legal evaluation on Friday.
This is a new position in the BPMigas's structure, BPMigas's chairman R. Priyono said.
"This is in response to public concern. BPMigas is often seen as weak on supervision. Now, we have a skillful supervisor from KPK," Priyono said.
As an upstream regulator BPMigas supervises 213 oil and gas contractors across the archipelago. The approval of annual works programs and budgets proposed by contractors is a responsibility of BPMigas.
Priyono said Lambok, who had worked at the Technology Research and Application Agency (BPPT) before KPK, was expected to strengthen BPMigas's supervision capacity.
"He is expected to strengthen both our internal supervision and on oil and gas contractors," he said.
BPMigas also introduced Budi Indianto on Friday as the new deputy for operations and Wibowo S. Wirjawan as the new deputy for finance.
Budi previously served as BPMigas's head of supporting operations. As the operations deputy, he replaced Eddy Purwanto.
Wibowo previously worked as CEO at Ocean Terminal Petikemas. As the financial deputy at BPMigas, he replaces Djoko Harsono.
Priyono said the replacement of the operations deputy and the financial deputy was normal at BPMigas. "This reshuffle aims to improve BPMigas's performance," Priyono said.
Oil and gas have been the backbone of the economy. In 2008, the sector contributed as much as Rp 304.38 trillion or more than 30 percent of total state revenue.
