Jakarta, VIVA – The Directorate General of Corrections (Ditjenpas), Ministry of Immigration and Corrections (Kemen Imipas), has confirmed that a viral video showing what appears to be the interior of a special cell equipped with ‘luxurious’ facilities such as beds and the use of mobile phones at Cilegon Prison is untrue.

This statement was delivered by Deputy Head of the Cooperation Sub-Directorate of Ditjenpas, Rika Aprianti, in response to a social media link shared by a journalist in Jakarta on Thursday.

According to Rika, the agency has received information from the Head of Cilegon Prison regarding the viral video, stating that the content on social media is not part of the prison’s facilities.

“The Head of Cilegon Prison has stated that the content on social media is not part of the Cilegon Prison facilities,” said Rika.

Rika emphasised that Ditjenpas is conducting supervision and monitoring of the post, and if any abuse of authority is proven, it will be dealt with firmly in accordance with applicable rules.

“If it is found and proven that there is an abuse of authority, action will certainly be taken,” she stressed.

However, she continued, based on the information from the Head of Cilegon Prison, there is no special cell or luxurious facilities provided to inmates. All inmates receive the same facilities.

“Based on the information from the Head of Cilegon Prison, all inmates are given the same facility rights,” said Rika.

The 30-second video, which has sparked discussion among netizens, shows a room with the narration “uproar over alleged luxurious facilities and mobile phone use at Cilegon Prison”.

In the video, two occupants are visible: one sleeping on a mattress with a white and blue pattern, and the other relaxing while charging a mobile phone. The video also captures the side of the room, which resembles a prison cell.

Previously, Ditjenpas held a pledge assembly for zero mobile phones (HP), illegal levies, drugs, and other violations, attended by all work units and employees within the institution on Thursday, 7 May 2026.

Ditjenpas Director General Mashudi stated that in the first quarter of 2026, 27 violations were successfully addressed by the agency, with 50 percent being serious violations, such as involvement in drugs.
