UNY Clarifies Alleged Research Fraud Involving Alumni Names
The academic world has recently been stirred by reports of two individuals allegedly falsifying research to secure travel grants and overseas travel facilities. The names circulating on social media are linked to alumni of Universitas Negeri Yogyakarta (UNY).
In response to the developing issue, UNY’s Academic Vice Rector, Nur Hidayanto Pancoro Setyo Putro, provided clarification regarding the status of the two names in the university’s database.
Internal checks confirmed that Rivaldy Fajar and Prihantini are listed as alumni. However, Prof. Nur stressed that name similarity alone does not confirm they are the same individuals involved in the viral claims.
The university is currently conducting in-depth investigations and clarification efforts with the parties involved. Prof. Nur stated that the campus has not received an official report regarding the alleged actions, hence no ethical measures have been imposed.
The issue originated from social media posts accusing data manipulation or fictitious research used to secure travel grants. Such practices, if proven, would constitute serious breaches of academic integrity that could tarnish the reputation of educational institutions.
UNY is committed to following established procedures and awaiting direct clarification from the two alumni before taking further action in accordance with the university’s code of ethics.
Who are the names involved in the allegations? The names circulating are Rivaldy Fajar (2017 Mathematics undergraduate alumnus) and Prihantini (2018 Mathematics undergraduate alumnus).
What actions has UNY taken so far? The university is currently conducting in-depth investigations, clarification efforts, and awaiting official reports before deciding on steps via the ethics committee.

Furthermore, he noted that there were several irregularities involving unidentified researchers.
