Unsri Intern Doctor Dies in Jambi, University Issues Statement

Universitas Sriwijaya (Unsri) is mourning the death of an intern doctor who was on duty at RSUD KH Daud Arif in Kuala Tungkal, Jambi, dr Myta Aprilia Azmy. Unsri stated that Myta was participating in a programme under the Ministry of Health.

According to detikSumbagsel on Tuesday (5/5/2026), Myta is suspected to have died due to excessive workload while on duty. Unsri’s Public Relations Coordinator, Nurly Meilinda, said that Myta was a doctor undergoing the Indonesian Doctor Internship programme under the authority of the Ministry of Health in accordance with Minister of Health Regulation Number 13 of 2025.

“The implementation of the programme, placement, and regulation of workload are under the authority of the relevant parties outside of Unsri,” she said.

Unsri is calling for the handling and resolution of this case to be carried out objectively. She said that Unsri prioritises the safety of healthcare workers.

“We also reaffirm our commitment to the importance of the safety and welfare of healthcare workers,” she stated.

The General Chairman of the Alumni Association of the Faculty of Medicine (IKA FK) Unsri, Achmad Junaidi, said that his side will monitor this case until it is resolved. He claimed to have sent a letter to the Ministry of Health on 30 April 2026 requesting an audit of the hospital where Myta was assigned.

“We have found a series of very concerning facts that have the potential to endanger the safety of intern doctors,” said Junaidi.

He mentioned that Myta was suspected of undergoing heavy workload without sufficient rest time. He said that Myta’s health condition had deteriorated since March 2026.

“dr Myta had reported symptoms of illness, but was still scheduled for night shifts in a condition of shortness of breath and high fever,” he explained.
