Unrepaired 'Sambuk' Bridge in Gadung Sari, Tabanan, Collapses After Being Hit by Floods
The bridge connecting Gadung Sari village, Selemadeg Timur sub-district, with Pesagi village, Penebel sub-district, has collapsed again after being hit by floods. The bridge, nicknamed the ‘Sambuk’ bridge (coconut fibre), was previously damaged in 2024 and has not yet received permanent repairs.
I Wayan Srindeg, the head of Gadung Sari village, when met at the location on Tuesday (24/2/2026), said that the first collapse occurred in 2024 on the eastern side. At that time, residents took the initiative to fill the hole using coconut fibre so that vehicles could still pass. Since then, the bridge has been known as the ‘Sambuk’ bridge.
“The first damage was reported to the Regent and the PUPR (Public Works and Spatial Planning) Department. At that time, officers paid attention to it, but the information was that the repair budget was diverted to paving roads,” said Srindeg.
However, on Sunday (22/2/2026), when heavy rain hit the area, the bridge, which was built in 1998, could not withstand the strong flow of the Yeh Ngigih river. The bridge structure broke in the middle to the eastern end and can no longer be used.
Srindeg said that the second damage has also been reported to the PUPR Department. The repair is planned to be carried out in April 2026.
“Hopefully, it will be repaired soon because this is an alternative route and is very important to Penebel,” he said.
According to Srindeg, the bridge is very vital for the residents of Gadung Sari, especially for sending agricultural commodities to the Pesagi area and its surroundings. The commodities transported include coconuts, cocoa, and other agricultural products.
As a result of the bridge collapsing, business actors in Gadung Sari are forced to take a detour to the south for 14-15 kilometers via the Denpasar-Gilimanuk route to get to Penebel.
