VIVA – The Student Executive Board of the Universitas Padjadjaran Student Family (BEM Kema Unpad), along with the BEM Kema of the Faculty of Nursing (FKep) Unpad, has issued an official statement regarding information circulating on social media platform X (formerly Twitter) about alleged inappropriate chats between a lecturer and a female student on campus.

“We have become aware of a report circulating on social media X (Twitter) regarding allegations of sexual violence involving Prof. H. Iyus Yosep,” stated BEM Unpad via Instagram Story on Wednesday, 15 April 2026.

BEM also expressed deep concern and empathy for the affected victim. They affirmed that there is no tolerance for sexual violence in the campus environment.

“We affirm that no form of sexual violence can be justified under any circumstances, and such actions have no place in the campus environment,” the statement continued.

Furthermore, BEM declared its solidarity with the victim and full support for efforts to protect and rehabilitate them.

“We declare our solidarity with the victim and fully support all efforts for protection, accompaniment, and rehabilitation of the victim,” BEM wrote.

BEM also highlighted the importance of a firm stance against any form of complicity in sexual violence within the academic environment.

“There is no tolerance for institutions, organisations, or individuals who choose to remain silent, protect the perpetrator, or prioritise reputation over the victim’s safety,” they asserted.

In addition, BEM urged the entire academic community not to disseminate the victim’s identity or unverified information, and to avoid victim-blaming.

“We emphasise the importance for the dean’s office to immediately take preventive steps to create a safe and inclusive space,” stated BEM.

For context, the alleged case surfaced after a viral post on social media showed screenshots of conversations purportedly involving a professor with a foreign student participating in Unpad’s exchange programme. In one of the circulating messages, the alleged perpetrator requested the victim to send a personal photo in an inappropriate context.

“I need your photo, when swim in the Phuket beach, wearing bikini,” read the circulating message.

The request was rejected by the victim. However, the communication allegedly continued, including other messages deemed unprofessional.
