Unlicensed accommodations in Indonesia face delisting from OTA platforms
JAKARTA, KOMPAS.com - The Ministry of Tourism (Kemenpar) warns that tourist accommodations that do not have official licences could be removed from online travel agent (OTA) platforms. ‘The Minister has already stated that unlicensed accommodations should not be listed yet or may not be marketed, is that right,’ said Rizki Handayani Mustafa, Acting Deputy for Industry and Investment at the Ministry of Tourism. This was conveyed by Rizki, or Kiki, when he met reporters after a press conference for the National Tourism Coordination Meeting (Rakornas Pariwisata), on Wednesday (20 May 2026). According to the latest data from Kemenpar as of 6 May 2026, more than 99,000 short-term accommodation units are registered in the Online Single Submission (OSS) system, and more than 31,000 accommodations have their Business Identification Number (NIB) verified. That figure grew by 43.9 percent compared with March 2025, when the programme first began. ‘There is an increase indeed. For example, we have five destinations that are pilot projects in Bali, Jakarta, Yogyakarta, West Java, and West Nusa Tenggara; it’s very noticeable, the OSS system numbers rise suddenly,’ said Kiki. In the near future, before the licensing deadline expires, the Indonesian Tourism Minister Widiyanti Putri Wardhana will again meet with OTA representatives to discuss the technical rules. According to Kiki, many accommodations have yet to report their business to the OSS site. ‘Some report that they have licences, some do not report; that is the difficulty – whether they have a licence or not,’ he said. In implementation, there are significant challenges, especially during the licence data verification process through OSS.
