Jakarta — The Labmino team from the University of Indonesia has been selected as one of the ten Global Ambassadors at the Samsung Solve for Tomorrow (SFT) competition through their artificial intelligence-based smart glasses innovation named RunSight.

RunSight is designed to help people with visual disabilities run independently and safely by utilising sensors and AI processing to read the environment in real time, providing route guidance and warnings about obstacles whilst considering comfort and energy efficiency in its design.

According to media reports and official Samsung announcements, Labmino is the delegation from Indonesia that has for the first time succeeded in breaking into the ranks of Global Ambassadors for SFT, and has made Indonesia one of only two countries in the Southeast Asia and Oceania (SEAO) region to achieve this distinction in 2025–2026.

The Ministry of Higher Education, Science and Technology (Kemdiktisaintek) welcomed this achievement as part of its mission to strengthen impactful higher education.

“We are proud that Indonesian youth innovation can compete at the global level. Labmino’s achievement demonstrates that campus support for experimentation and cross-disciplinary collaboration can produce real impact for society,” said Director General of Higher Education Khairul Munadi through a statement in Jakarta on Saturday.

In Milan, the SFT programme included an ambassador appointment ceremony, an exhibition of innovative solutions, and international networking activities bringing together talent, investors and potential partners.

“The government will continue to encourage campus–industry partnerships and the commercialisation of innovation so that solutions like RunSight can be utilised more widely,” said Khairul Munadi.

Furthermore, the Director of Learning and Student Affairs at Kemdiktisaintek, Benny Bandanadjadja, stated that Labmino’s presence at the event opened opportunities for research collaboration, pilot projects and access to a broader industrial network.

Kemdiktisaintek hopes this achievement will trigger more similar initiatives across other universities. Students are encouraged to innovate not merely for awards, but to address societal issues with solutions that can be replicated and accessed, thereby providing genuine impact on improving citizens’ welfare.

“Innovations like RunSight not only demonstrate students’ technical capabilities but also their concern for inclusion and access for people with disabilities. We hope this achievement can inspire many more students across various universities,” said Benny Bandanadjadja.
