“Every form of sexual violence, including verbal acts occurring in digital or offline settings, constitutes a serious violation of the university’s values, academic code, and prevailing laws,” said Erwin Agustian Panigoro, UI Director of Public Relations, Media, Government and International Affairs, on Tuesday.

The university has assigned its Sexual Violence Prevention and Handling Task Force to investigate the case, including verifying reports, summoning those involved, and gathering evidence.

The Law Faculty has also conducted an internal review and summoned the students involved, while its student body has revoked their membership.

The university may impose disciplinary measures, including expulsion, and may refer the case to law enforcement if violations of the law are confirmed.

Panigoro said UI will provide psychological and legal assistance to victims while ensuring confidentiality.

He also urged the public to respect the ongoing investigation and avoid spreading unverified information, adding that updates will be provided transparently.

The case drew widespread attention after screenshots circulated on social media showed a Law Faculty student chat group containing lewd conversations, derogatory remarks toward female peers, and the objectification of women.

Following the exposure, the students involved were presented before a faculty forum on Monday, where calls emerged for their expulsion and further disciplinary action.
