University needs more lecturers

JAYAPURA, Irian Jaya: The Cendrawasih University urgently
needs more lecturers, Rector August Kafiar says.

Kafiar was quoted by Antara as saying that the university has
only 478 staff lecturers, 111 of whom hold masters degree and
doctoral qualifications.

Kafiar said the number of lecturers would be gradually
increased to improve the university's quality.

The university has also been conducting research and education
programs with various national and international agencies.

During the first semester of the 1994-1995 academic year, the
university, which is currently building a new campus five
kilometers from the old one, had 4,929 students, 50 percent of
whom are Irians.(pwn)
