University Degrees 'No Longer Important,' Says Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang
Many people carefully consider their degree subject, as it can impact future careers. However, Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang has a different view.
The US$185.1 billion (Rp 3.3 trillion) man said that whatever one studies in the future won’t be a problem, as the key is art and design in an AI-dominated world.
‘I don’t think it matters [what degree you choose]. Everything that was once important will remain important in the future,’ Huang said, quoted by Fortune on Friday 29 May 2026.
People should instead consider how AI can enhance their skills. Technology can help improve existing expertise.
‘The only thing to do is ensure you ask yourself: how can AI help improve my learning, skills, and goals,’ he explained.
Huang, an electronics engineering graduate from Oregon State University and a master’s in electrical engineering from Stanford, said if he had to redo his studies, he would focus more on physics than software.
Similarly, Anthropic co-founder Jack Clark, who studied English literature and creative writing, said education on history and narratives about the future is crucial for his AI work.
Daniela Amodei, another Anthropic co-founder and a literature graduate from the University of California, Santa Cruz, said young people should focus on areas where technology needs improvement, such as communication and critical thinking.
‘I believe studying humanities has become more important than ever,’ she said.
