United States Offers 10 Million Dollar Reward for Information on Location of Iran's New Leader
The United States has offered a reward of up to 10 million dollars for information about the location of Iran’s new leader, Ayatollah Mojtaba Khamenei, and other officials, according to a statement from the State Department’s Rewards for Justice (RFJ) programme.
“Rewards for Justice is offering a reward of up to 10 million dollars (approximately 169.5 billion rupiah) for information about key leaders of Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guards Corps (IRGC) and its component branches. These individuals lead and direct various elements of the IRGC, which plan, organise, and carry out terrorism throughout the world,” the RFJ stated.
According to RFJ, the reward applies to information concerning several individuals, including Ayatollah Mojtaba Khamenei, Deputy Chief of Staff at the Office of the Supreme Leader (SLO) Ali Asghar Hejazi, SLO Adviser Ali Larijani, Interior Minister Brigadier General Eskandar Momeni, and Minister of Intelligence and Security Esmail Khatib.
On 28 February, the United States and Israel launched attacks against targets in Iran, including Tehran, causing destruction and civilian casualties and killing Iran’s Supreme Leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei. Iran subsequently responded by attacking Israeli territory and US military facilities in the Middle East.
Mojtaba, the son of Ali Khamenei, was subsequently elected as Iran’s new leader. Iranian authorities have not announced other changes to the country’s military leadership.
The United States and Israel initially claimed their strikes were necessary to counter perceived threats from Iran’s nuclear programme, but later clarified that they were seeking regime change in Iran.
