Unionists demand to be reinstated

JAKARTA (JP): Four union leaders from PT Berlina, a private plastic factory, are protesting their dismissal from the Tangerang-based factory.

The leaders, identified as Lbt, Jns, Umr and Twd, were fired last July 12 for instigating strikes involving more than 500 workers, Antara reported yesterday.

The four said the dismissal was a violation of the collective agreement between the union and the management, which states that one cannot be denied work during a dispute.

They took the matter to the local arbitration committee of the Ministry of Manpower, but lost. They have now appealed their case to the central arbitration committee. (anr)
