Unexpected! Used Alphard Losing to This Car - Hard to Sell, Why?
Jakarta, CNBC Indonesia - Used car dealers at WTC Mangga Dua in North Jakarta report that sales have not fully recovered to pre-2025 levels. Even during the 2026 Eid al-Fitr period, dealers say used car sales remained subdued. This situation is particularly evident in the luxury used car segment. As revealed by Willy, a used car seller at WTC Mangga Dua, who was met by CNBC Indonesia on Wednesday (15/4/2026). The scene at this used car sales centre was observed to be quite deserted, with only a few visitors arriving. Willy admits to difficulties in selling luxury used cars. Moreover, their availability is also limited. “If we’re saying it’s improved, not really, especially in the luxury car segment. But compared to 2025, it’s slightly better, though still sluggish,” he said, quoted on Thursday (16/4/2026). “We have two difficulties. It’s hard to sell the cars, and it’s also hard to find cars to sell,” Willy continued. He cited the example of used Alphards, which are increasingly difficult to sell. The reason, besides their dropping prices, is the growing number of luxury electric cars that are far cheaper, impacting sales of the used versions. “Take the Alphard as an example; it’s a bit hard to sell because there are many cheaper competitors now. Especially luxury electric cars, with more and more priced below Rp1 billion,” he stated. Middle-Class People’s Cars - LCGC Still Popular On the other hand, dealers say sales of mid-to-low-end used cars are starting to improve. “It’s starting to get better, perhaps helped by the cheap car segment. There’s a lot of interest in older models,” said Joni, a used car seller met by CNBC Indonesia. Joni sells used cars in the mid-to-low segment, priced from Rp100 million to Rp300 million. “Avanza from 2013, 2016 are popular; the 2019 ones are still okay, maybe because they still use rear-wheel drive. Older Innova from 2013 and Innova Reborn are also still selling well,” Joni continued. Meanwhile, in the LCGC segment, the Honda Brio, Toyota Agya, and Toyota Calya are also still in demand. “LCGC is still decent, especially the Agya, with fairly good sales,” Joni said.
