Unej Tightens ICT Security to Anticipate Cheating Ahead of UTBK SNBT
Jember, East Java (ANTARA) - Universitas Jember (Unej) is tightening information and communication technology (ICT) security and implementing layered supervision to anticipate cheating ahead of the Computer-Based Written Exam (UTBK) for the National Selection Based on Tests (SNBT) 2026, considering that cheating occurred among participants in 2025.
“To prevent potential cheating, the team has prepared anticipatory measures, including checking all computer devices and ICT networks to ensure all computers are free of any other applications besides the UTBK SNBT application,” said Prof Bayu Taruna, Coordinator of ICT for Unej’s UTBK Centre, on campus on Thursday.
In addition, two days before the exam, he continued, all rooms will be sterilised and sealed, while room keys will be kept by the location负责人.
He explained that for the 2026 UTBK SNBT implementation, the Central SNPMB Committee has also prepared a special operating system to be used on every computer device. Therefore, they have trained all ICT technicians on duty to apply that special operating system.
Vigilance is also emphasised to all exam supervisors, both before, during, and after the exam. Supervisors are instructed to check SNBT UTBK participants with metal detectors and inspect equipment suspected to be certain gadgets.
“Supervision is also carried out during the exam and after it ends. Therefore, supervisors must be sensitive and always alert to potential cheating,” he said.
Meanwhile, Unej Rector Iwan Taruna has asked all personnel involved directly or indirectly in the 2026 UTBK SNBT to always uphold values of honesty and integrity, as conveyed in the previous coordination meeting for UTBK SNBT preparations.
“All involved personnel must have the same understanding and follow the Standard Operating Procedures for UTBK SNBT that have been established,” he said.
To ensure the smooth running of the 2026 UTBK SNBT, Unej is also involving the Institution for Quality Assurance and Educational Development (LPMPP) as well as the Internal Supervisory Unit (SPI) in the UTBK SNBT implementation.
Unej’s LPMPP will conduct supervision and evaluation on the technical and procedural aspects of the activity, preparation of human resources, provision of facilities and infrastructure, as well as services for participants. Meanwhile, SPI will supervise and evaluate the budgeting and financial aspects of UTBK SNBT at Unej’s UTBK Centre.
“I also ask Unej’s UTBK Centre together with LPMPP Unej to select and evaluate personnel who will serve as committee members. If from last year’s implementation evaluation their performance does not meet the requirements, it is best to replace them with other personnel,” he said.
Unej’s UTBK Centre participated in the national trial of the UTBK SNBT implementation held by the Central Committee for National Selection of New Student Admissions (SNPMB), joined by 74 UTBK Centres across Indonesia over two days on 1-2 April 2026.
Over two days, the Central SNPMB Committee checked the readiness of each UTBK Centre, particularly the readiness of computer devices as well as information and communication technology (ICT) facilities and infrastructure that support it.
Unej is preparing 955 computers located in 31 rooms spread across 20 locations on the Unej campus, with the UTBK SNBT implementation scheduled from 21 to 30 April 2026.
