Undip student beaten by dozens of peers and seniors, suffers a concussion and severe trauma
Semarang — A student of the Department of Social Anthropology, Faculty of Cultural Sciences at Diponegoro University (Undip), named Arnendo (20), is suspected of being assaulted by around 30 fellow students and seniors. Arnendo, a resident of Jambu in Semarang Regency, sustained serious physical injuries and the trauma has been officially reported to the police. The victim’s lawyer, Zainal Petir, said the alleged assault occurred on the night of 15 November 2025 and has been reported to police, though there have been no subsequent developments. The victim’s family has asked him to accompany them to Polrestabes Semarang to inquire about the matter. Zainal disclosed the chronology: The victim was invited by a friend named A to a boarding house room under the pretext of discussing a campus music event. Upon arrival around 22:03 WIB, the victim was surrounded by many people in the boarding house yard and pressured to admit having sexually harassed a female student. According to Zainal Petir, the victim denied the accusation strongly. He explained that the incident was a misunderstanding when the victim invited the female student to eat with the campaign team for the student union president election. It is strongly alleged that one of the attackers, who had developed feelings for the female student, did not accept this and triggered the assault. The beating lasted for more than five hours, from around 23:00 WIB until just before dawn. During this period, the victim is said to have been beaten alternately with wooden sticks, a clothes hanger, and struck with a belt. ‘Not only that, the perpetrators also carried out inhumane acts such as setting the victim’s body on fire with a cigarette, applying hot cream to the genital area, forcibly shaving the hair and eyebrows, and binding the victim’s neck with a belt,’ said Zaenal. As a result, the victim had to undergo intensive care for several days at Banyumanik 2 Hospital and Bina Kasih Ambarawa Hospital. ‘Based on medical examinations, the victim was diagnosed with a broken nose, a concussion, and nerve damage. In addition to physical disabilities, the victim, currently in his fourth semester, was forced to take a leave of absence due to severe trauma,’ Zaenal explained. The victim’s parents, who work as nasi goreng sellers, had actually reported the case on 16 November 2025.
