UN urged to supervise WTC justice

JAKARTA: Several Indonesian religious figures urged the United
Nations on Friday to assume authority for cases relating to the
terrorist attacks in the U.S. on Sept. 11, to ensure the
enforcement of both national and international laws.

"If needed, entrust the cases to the international court to
ensure justice," John Palinggi, general secretary of the
Indonesian Religious Brotherhood and Social Interaction Body
(Bisma), said.

The terrorist attacks on the World Trade Center and Pentagon,
which the U.S. has responded to by launching military attacks
against Afghanistan, were discussed at a Bisma meeting lead by
the body's chairman, Sulastomo.

"Bisma cannot justify both the terrorist attacks in the U.S.
and the U.S. military attacks against Afghanistan, which has
caused many civilian casualties," Palinggi said.

At the meeting, Sulastomo prayed for the unity of all
Indonesian people and expressed hope that the U.S. attacks
against Afghanistan would not be considered a war against Islam.
