UN urged to supervise WTC justice<\/p>\n
JAKARTA: Several Indonesian religious figures urged the United
\nNations on Friday to assume authority for cases relating to the
\nterrorist attacks in the U.S. on Sept. 11, to ensure the
\nenforcement of both national and international laws.<\/p>\n
"If needed, entrust the cases to the international court to
\nensure justice," John Palinggi, general secretary of the
\nIndonesian Religious Brotherhood and Social Interaction Body
\n(Bisma), said.<\/p>\n
The terrorist attacks on the World Trade Center and Pentagon,
\nwhich the U.S. has responded to by launching military attacks
\nagainst Afghanistan, were discussed at a Bisma meeting lead by
\nthe body's chairman, Sulastomo.<\/p>\n
"Bisma cannot justify both the terrorist attacks in the U.S.
\nand the U.S. military attacks against Afghanistan, which has
\ncaused many civilian casualties," Palinggi said.<\/p>\n
At the meeting, Sulastomo prayed for the unity of all
\nIndonesian people and expressed hope that the U.S. attacks
\nagainst Afghanistan would not be considered a war against Islam.
