Washington (ANTARA) – The United Nations Security Council (UNSC) has condemned the ‘vile and cowardly’ terrorist suicide bombing on a passenger train in Pakistan. In a press statement on Tuesday (26 May), the council stated that Sunday’s (24 May) suicide bombing in Balochistan province killed at least 14 Pakistani nationals and injured dozens more, including women and children. ‘The council members reaffirmed that terrorism in all its forms and manifestations constitutes one of the most serious threats to international peace and security,’ the statement read. The UNSC extended its deepest sympathies and condolences to the victims’ families, as well as to the government and people of Pakistan, and prayed for the swift recovery of the injured. UNSC member states were also urged to actively cooperate with Pakistan in accordance with international law and relevant Security Council resolutions. ‘The council members reiterated that any act of terrorism is criminal and unjustifiable, regardless of its motivations, wherever, whenever, and by whomsoever committed,’ the UNSC statement said. The council also reaffirmed the obligation of all states to combat terrorism through measures consistent with the UN Charter and international law, including international human rights law, refugee law, and humanitarian law.
