The United Nations (UN) has confirmed that the investigation into the attack that led to the deaths of three Indonesian peacekeepers in Lebanon is ongoing. The UN promises that the results of the investigation will be announced in the near future.

UN Secretary-General’s Spokesperson, Stephane Dujarric, emphasised that any form of attack on UNIFIL (United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon) peacekeeping troops is unacceptable. He demanded full accountability for the bloody incident.

“The investigation is underway and, despite the challenging situation, we are confident that we can soon provide the latest information regarding its results,” Dujarric stated during a press conference at UN Headquarters on Wednesday (1 April 2026) local time.

Dujarric acknowledged that the technical expert team is currently working hard to examine physical evidence at the incident site. However, he did not deny that there are obstacles in the field hindering the investigators’ swift movement.

Efforts to access the incident site on time were initially hampered by the need to de-escalate tensions between conflicting parties in the area. Nevertheless, the UN is committed to uncovering the true facts for the sake of justice for the victims.

UN Deputy Secretary-General for Peacekeeping Operations, Jean-Pierre Lacroix, is also continuously monitoring the security situation on the ground. This is crucial given the escalating conflict, including reports of a large explosion in the village of Naqoura, near the UNIFIL headquarters, on 1 April.

Indonesia has lost three of its finest sons while carrying out the global peacekeeping mission in southern Lebanon in two separate incidents.

The Indonesian government, through the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, continues to coordinate with the UN to ensure the safety of other TNI personnel still serving in Lebanon, and urges full transparency in this investigation process.
