Ummat Party: Yusril's Proposal on Parliamentary Threshold Can Be Considered
JAKARTA - The Ummat Party supports the proposal from Coordinating Minister for Law, Human Rights, Immigration, and Correctional Services Yusril Ihza Mahendra regarding changes to the parliamentary threshold provisions.
The Ummat Party considers this idea as a middle path if the proposal for a zero percent threshold cannot be achieved.
“If it is not possible to agree on a zero percent threshold, Mr Yusril’s idea can be considered, with the condition that the number of commissions does not exceed 13 commissions,” said Ummat Party DPP Chairman Aznur Syamsu to Kompas.com on Monday (4/5/2026).
According to him, this would serve as a fair solution to reduce the number of wasted votes in the General Election.
“A 2 percent threshold, one person one commission, is a very compromising middle path, quite fair and not too many votes wasted,” he stated.
According to them, this system would better respect voice representation in the regions.
“The idea of a threshold applied per electoral district, not nationally, is also worth considering, then combined with limitations on the number of factions at the centre,” he added.
