UMJ Receives Three Decrees for New Study Programmes from Minister of Higher Education
Universitas Muhammadiyah Jakarta (UMJ) has received three decrees from the Minister of Higher Education, Science, and Technology for the opening of new study programmes. The handover took place at the LLDIKTI Region III auditorium on Tuesday.
The three decrees cover the establishment of a Speech and Language Therapy Applied Bachelor programme, a Physical Education Master’s programme, and a Doctorate in Political Science. These programmes are organised by the Muhammadiyah Association as UMJ’s governing body.
Head of LLDIKTI Region III, Dr Henri Togar Hasiholan Tambunan, stated that the issuance of these permits is a timely opportunity for higher education institutions to prepare for new student admissions in the coming semester. He noted that the approved programmes are in fields needed by society and will broaden higher education choices for prospective students. “The timing is perfect as there is still time to prepare for new student intake. These programmes are also highly needed by the community, providing more options while addressing current demands,” he said.
Tambunan added that after receiving the decree, institutions must promptly prepare supporting aspects, from faculty resources and accreditation processes to academic administration, to ensure the programmes run optimally from the outset. He also affirmed LLDIKTI Region III’s commitment to assisting universities during the implementation phase. “If there are matters to consult or support needed regarding programme delivery, we are ready to assist so the process can run smoothly,” he stated.
UMJ’s Vice Rector I, Prof Dr Muhammad Hadi, explained that the three new programmes are planned to begin accepting students in the odd semester of the upcoming academic year. He described the addition as part of UMJ’s strategy to strengthen academic capacity and expand the university’s contribution to societal needs. The opening of the Physical Education master’s and Political Science doctoral programmes further reinforces postgraduate education development at UMJ. Meanwhile, the Speech and Language Therapy programme is expected to meet the growing demand for healthcare services. “Speech therapy is a very important field today as it can support the treatment of various health conditions, from stroke-related disorders to various communication barriers requiring professional handling,” he said.
Hadi emphasised that receiving the decrees is not only an institutional achievement but also a mandate that must be realised through quality education. UMJ is committed to ensuring that each new programme maintains excellent academic standards. “This is a responsibility entrusted by the state to UMJ. We will prove it through quality programme implementation and a target of superior accreditation as a demonstration of UMJ’s sincerity in carrying out this mandate,” he asserted.
With the receipt of these three decrees, UMJ continues to strengthen its role as a university responsive to community needs with the opening of study programmes relevant to contemporary developments.
