Ulemas support anti-crime raid
JAKARTA (JP): The city chapter of the Indonesian Ulemas Council (MUI-DKI) yesterday pledged support for the military- sponsored anti-crime operation in the greater Jakarta area.
Operation Cleansing will be continued with the support of all parties to fight against any type of city crime, M. Syafi'i Hamzah of the council said in his speech in the MUI-DKI meeting in Cipayung, Bogor.
City Military spokesman Lt. Col. Didi Supandi said in a statement released here yesterday that the two-day meeting was also attended by Greater Jakarta Military Commander Maj. Gen. Wiranto.
In his speech, Wiranto hoped that the ulemas give their support to help the military reduce the high incidence of crime in Jakarta.(bsr)
