Ulema and family planning honor

We know from the media and television that the government has
time and again presented honors to persons who have played an
important role in making the family planning program a success.
The recipients of the honor are, among others, minister,
governors, military commanders and wives of high ranking
officials.

However, no ulema has ever been awarded an honor in this
particular field. In fact the ulema do play an important in
family planning, particularly in the earlier 1970s when the
government had just begun launching family planning program
project.

That the Moslems are ready to accept family planning was due
to the role of the ulema. The society could accept the
explanations given by the ulema. Therefore, it is appropriate if
the government considers awarding the ulema a family planning
medal. The significance will be greater if the honor is presented
during the month of Ramadhan.
