Ukrainian diplomat reaffirms peace commitment, highlights Russia's role
Jakarta (ANTARA) - Ukraine’s Chargé d’Affaires Ad Interim in Jakarta, Yevhenia Shynkarenko, stated that Ukraine wishes for peace to be realised swiftly amid the ongoing war with Russia.
In an interview following the opening of the photo exhibition “Four Years of Resilience” commemorating four years since Russia’s invasion on Monday (23/2), she said US President Donald Trump had made various efforts to end the war, although his focus has now shifted to conflicts in the Middle East.
“With the support of the United States, we have conducted several rounds of negotiations, but our message is that it is not Ukraine that needs to be pushed towards peace,” Shynkarenko said.
She affirmed that the Ukrainian people and government have demonstrated their commitment to achieving peace.
“The only country that needs to be pushed towards that, not only by the United States but also by the entire international community, is Russia,” she said.
On the same occasion, the European Union Ambassador to Indonesia, Denis Chaibi, expressed appreciation for the various efforts towards peace.
“We are regularly in contact with our Ukrainian and American partners and provide support wherever possible,” he said, adding that they are following the talks closely.
Meanwhile, the British Ambassador to Indonesia, Dominic Jermey, stated that Russia would not win the war.
He said that by 2025, nearly half a million young Russians had been killed and territorial gains amounted to less than one per cent of Ukrainian territory.
Jermey urged the international community to show solidarity with Ukraine and uphold the rules-based international order.
