UKMTO reports three maritime incidents in the Strait of Hormuz
London (ANTARA) - Three separate maritime security incidents involving commercial vessels were reported in waters near the Strait of Hormuz within three hours, according to the latest daily summary released by the United Kingdom Maritime Trade Operations (UKMTO) on Saturday (18/4). UKMTO stated that the regional security environment remains unstable, with ongoing military activities continuing to pose risks to commercial shipping. In the first incident, a tanker was approached by two gunboats of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) approximately 20 nautical miles northeast of Oman. The master reported that the vessels fired shots towards the tanker without prior VHF radio warning. The tanker and all its crew were reported safe. In the second incident, a container ship was struck by an unknown projectile approximately 25 nautical miles northeast of Oman, and several containers on the vessel sustained damage. No fire or environmental impact was reported. In the third incident, a commercial vessel reported observing water splashes near the ship while transiting approximately 3 nautical miles east of Oman. No further details regarding damage or threats were available at that time. The agency advised vessels transiting the area to remain vigilant.
