UK reportedly to hold talks on Strait of Hormuz next week
London (ANTARA) - The UK will hold talks with its allies regarding the opening of the Strait of Hormuz for shipping without paying tolls to Iran next week, as reported by Reuters on Friday (10/4), citing statements from officials who declined to be named.
Officials from the UK Foreign Office are scheduled to meet with foreign ministry officials from countries that participated in the virtual meeting on 2 April, organised by UK Foreign Secretary Yvette Cooper, concerning the reopening of the Strait of Hormuz, according to the report.
The discussions will cover “coordinated economic and political measures, including the possibility of sanctions” as well as the release of ships and crews trapped in the strait, the official said, as quoted by Reuters.
Representatives from more than 40 countries, along with international organisations such as the European Union (EU) and the International Maritime Organisation, attended the 2 April meeting to discuss possible coordinated actions against Iran, including diplomatic pressure as well as economic and political measures such as sanctions.
