UK firm wins Vietnam order

HANOI (Reuter): John Laing International of Britain said on
Saturday it had won a US$32 million contract to build an office
tower in Ho Chi Minh City.

It said in a statement it had been awarded the main
superstructure contract for a 25-story tower, the first phase of
the Saigon Center, a retail, office, hotel and residential
development that will eventually have five high-rise buildings.

Construction of the tower is due to start at the end of next
January and to be completed by the end of July 1996.

Partners in the joint venture project are First Pacific
Davies, Singapore's Straits Steamship Land and two Vietnamese
companies.

John Laing said it was the first British contractor to win a
major construction contract in Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam's
biggest city and main commercial center.
