REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, SEMARANG – The State Islamic University (UIN) Walisongo in Semarang has obtained the identity of a lecturer suspected of sexually harassing a female student on the campus. However, the process of gathering evidence, including witness statements, is still ongoing.

The Head of the Centre for Gender and Child Studies (PSGA) at UIN Walisongo Semarang, Kurnia Muhajarah, revealed that her team received information about the alleged sexual harassment case involving a lecturer on 5 May 2026. Upon receiving the information, they immediately began the investigation and evidence collection process.

According to Kurnia, to date, no female student alleged to be the victim has officially reported the suspected sexual harassment case. Nevertheless, her team continues to deepen the investigation and gather evidence.

“If the suspicion (regarding the perpetrator) is already there and pointing in a certain direction, but since it is still just a suspicion, it cannot yet be made public,” said Kurnia after attending a public dialogue and free podium event organised by UIN Walisongo students to discuss sexual violence cases on campus, on Monday (11/5/2026).

She added that the task of the PPKS Task Force and PSGA at UIN Walisongo is only to investigate and collect evidence related to the alleged sexual harassment case committed by the lecturer. “Summoning the suspect and so on is not within the remit of the PPKS Task Force,” she stated.

According to Kurnia, summoning the suspected perpetrator will later fall under the authority of the university leadership and the ethics committee at UIN Walisongo. “We have reported the preliminary investigation results to the leadership. So we are already in process,” she said.

To facilitate and accelerate the investigation process, Kurnia urged the alleged victim to report the incident. She guaranteed that the alleged victim’s identity would be protected and kept confidential. “So please, the victim should speak up and report,” said Kurnia.

During the public dialogue and free podium, several UIN students expressed their criticism of the sexual harassment case in various ways, such as speeches and poetry readings. They also unfurled a banner reading “Reject Sexual Violence”.

“Today’s action shows reflection that students strongly reject the occurrence of sexual violence at UIN Walisongo,” said Farid Muhammad, Coordinator of Eksospol from the UIN Walisongo Student Study Group, when interviewed during the event.
