UIN Suska Riau to Expel Student Accused of Machete Attack on Campus
UIN Suska Riau will expel or dismiss Raihan Mufazzar from campus following his alleged machete attack on student Faradilla Ayu Pramesti.
Magfirah Ibu Abu Bakar, Dean of the Faculty of Sharia and Law at UIN Suska Riau, stated that the dismissal would be carried out shortly once the university’s ethics committee, established to handle the case, completes its work.
She indicated that expulsion was warranted because Raihan’s conduct constituted a serious breach of regulations. “The campus has what we call an ethics committee. Looking at the case, this is indeed a serious violation. The committee is working and the final recommendation will likely be dismissal,” Magfirah said.
She noted that the perpetrator’s actions have damaged the university’s reputation and were carried out with extreme cruelty. Regarding the criminal charges, she stated these will be handled by law enforcement.
The 23-year-old victim, Faradila, sustained three cuts and stab wounds when attacked whilst preparing for her thesis defence at the campus. According to Kombes Pandra Zahwani Arsyad, Head of Public Relations for Riau Police Headquarters, the victim suffered wounds to the head, back, and arm.
The attack occurred on Thursday, 26 February at approximately 08:30 WIB whilst the victim was preparing for her thesis proposal defence. Police stated that the male perpetrator, who knew the victim, came to campus with the intention of harming her and had brought a machete as a weapon.
The perpetrator went directly to the victim upon arriving at campus and carried out the attack. Following the incident, the university immediately contacted Bina Widya Police Station through the emergency line 110, and officers arrested the perpetrator at the scene.
The victim has been undergoing intensive care at Bhayangkara Hospital in Pekanbaru and is in stable condition.
According to police investigation findings, the attack was motivated by the perpetrator’s resentment or ill-will towards the victim. “They had a close relationship, and it appears there was hurt feelings or a grudge,” police stated.
