UIN Jambi Lecturer Caught in Compromising Position with Female Student, Commission X DPR: University Must Be Firm
A lecturer at the State Islamic University (UIN) Sulthan Thaha Saifuddin Jambi, initialled DK, was raided by his wife and residents while in a boarding house with a female student. Deputy Chairman of Commission X of the DPR, Lalu Hadrian Irfani, stated that the university must be firm in imposing sanctions on DK. Initially, Hadrian said the university’s step to deactivate DK was appropriate. This is an initial step to ensure the examination process runs objectively and transparently. “In my view, the university needs to take firm steps, but still based on a fair and measured disciplinary process,” Hadrian explained to reporters on Monday (4/5/2026). The handling of the case, he added, must refer to the lecturer’s code of ethics, applicable disciplinary regulations, as well as the university’s statutes and internal rules. Through an official investigation, Hadrian said, sanctions can be imposed proportionally according to the level of violation, ranging from severe warnings to dismissal if proven to be a serious violation. “This firmness is important, but it must still be based on evidence, procedures, and principles of justice to maintain the institution’s integrity,” he continued. For him, lecturers not only serve as educators but also as moral exemplars in the academic environment. “Therefore, incidents like this have the potential to damage public trust and injure the institution’s dignity,” Hadrian stated. “In my opinion, this case is a violation of the lecturer’s code of ethics, particularly regarding professionalism, power relations between lecturers and students, and personal integrity,” he added. Previously, the lecturer initialled DK was raided by his wife and residents while in a boarding house with a female student from one of the state universities in Jambi. DK was in the midst of an intimate encounter with the female student. DK’s wife conducted the raid accompanied by the RT Chairman, the Ward Head, police, and the village military outpost after conducting surveillance. UIN Sulthan Thaha Saifuddin Jambi regrets the occurrence of the incident. “In connection with this, UIN STS Jambi deeply regrets and apologises for the raiding incident involving one of the rogue lecturers. We will immediately conduct a deeper investigation to take firm action,” said the Rector of UIN STS Jambi, Prof Kasful Anwar, in a written statement as reported by detikSumbagsel on Sunday (3/5/2026). UIN STS Jambi has taken firm action against the rogue lecturer. DK has now been temporarily deactivated from his additional position as deputy dean. UIN STS Jambi has also temporarily halted the rogue lecturer’s involvement in various activities representing the institution, both internally and externally on campus. “This is to maintain the objectivity of the examination and academic conduciveness in the campus environment,” he emphasised.
