Depok (ANTARA) - Universitas Indonesia (UI) has affirmed that the temporary deactivation of 16 students from the Faculty of Law UI (FHUI) in the case of alleged verbal harassment is not a final form of sanction, but rather part of the administrative process for the examination.

“The university continues to uphold the principles of presumption of innocence, justice, and the protection of every individual’s rights,” said UI Rector Heri Hermansyah in Depok on Thursday.

“The confidentiality of the identities of all parties is strictly maintained throughout the process. In connection with this, UI urges all parties not to disseminate unverified information and to avoid speculation that could disrupt the handling process,” he said.

According to him, wise public support is very important to maintain the integrity of the process and protect all involved parties.

UI promises to convey further developments on the examination results of this case and will provide them periodically through the university’s official channels, while prioritising principles of caution, information accuracy, and protection of all involved parties.

Previously, UI imposed a temporary academic deactivation on the 16 Faculty of Law students suspected of verbal violence for the period from 15 April to 30 May 2026.

This policy was taken based on the Internal Memo Letter on the Plan for Follow-up Examination (RTLP) from UI’s Task Force for the Prevention and Handling of Violence (Satgas PPK) dated 15 April 2026.

The Task Force officially recommended the temporary suspension of student status for the 16 reported students.
