UI Law Faculty Sexual Harassment Case, ILRC: When Future Legal Thinkers Play with Legal Principles
JAKARTA, KOMPAS.com - Director of the Indonesian Legal Resource Center, Siti Aminah Tardi, has expressed anger over the sexual harassment incident carried out by 16 students from the Faculty of Law (FH) at the University of Indonesia.
She stated that sexual harassment demonstrates a mindset that normalises the objectification of women’s bodies, which should be protected under legal principles.
“When these principles are interpreted in such a way by future legal thinkers and enforcers, I am concerned about the future enforcement of the law, especially in sexual violence cases,” she told Kompas.com on Tuesday (14/4/2026).
She also appreciated FH UI’s initiative to open a complaint channel and willingness to provide support to victims who need it.
In addition to handling the case, the woman familiarly known as Ami encouraged FH UI to intensify efforts to prevent sexual violence.
“As part of building a safe space from various forms of violence and discrimination, including sexual violence and gender-based discrimination,” she added.
