Universitas Indonesia (UI) is exploring collaboration with Harbin Institute of Technology (HIT), China, in the fields of education, research, and technology development as a strategic step to enhance graduate competitiveness while expanding the global network of higher education institutions.

UI’s Vice Rector for Academic Affairs, Mahmud Sudibandriyo, in Depok on Thursday, reaffirmed UI’s commitment to making international cooperation a top priority.

“We are open to developing cooperation in various forms, ranging from student and staff exchanges to double degree programmes and joint research. UI also has a digital education platform that can be developed together with international partners,” he stated.

Meanwhile, HIT’s Vice President Prof. Qinyu Zhang emphasised the importance of international collaboration in strengthening cultural exchanges and scientific development, particularly in engineering.

Both parties also discussed the development of digital education programmes through a digital academy initiative based in Shenzhen, which includes master’s and doctoral programmes in technology, as well as AI-based training.

This programme also opens opportunities for developing micro-credentials and short-term certifications as part of enhancing human resource capacity.

Dean of UI’s Faculty of Engineering (FTUI) Kemas Ridwan Kurniawan stated that his faculty has various international programmes, including international undergraduate classes, double degree programmes, and joint degrees that have potential to be developed with partners in China.

Both parties also discussed opportunities for organising international joint workshops that would allow students to gain direct academic and industry experience, while strengthening cross-cultural understanding.

The programme is expected to add value through academic credit recognition for participants.

As a follow-up, UI and HIT will discuss more technical aspects to formulate more concrete forms of cooperation, including the possibility of drafting a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU).
