The Faculty of Animal Science at Universitas Gadjah Mada (UGM) in Yogyakarta emphasises the importance of cross-border collaboration in addressing global challenges in the livestock sector and food security.

“Issues of food security, climate change, and the sustainability of livestock systems cannot be resolved in isolation; strong global collaboration is required,” said Dean of the UGM Faculty of Animal Science, Prof Budi Guntoro, in his statement in Yogyakarta on Friday.

According to him, this cross-border collaboration is embodied through the forum of The 7th International Joint Graduate Seminar (IJGS), organised by the UGM Faculty of Animal Science at Maejo University in Thailand recently.

The event serves as an international academic forum for postgraduate students, lecturers, and researchers to share research results while strengthening cross-border scientific networks.

“And IJGS becomes one of the important bridges for that,” he said.

Through the organisation of IJGS, the UGM Faculty of Animal Science reaffirms its commitment to continuously promoting the exchange of knowledge, research innovation, and the development of superior human resources in the livestock field.

“The IJGS event is expected to become a strong foundation for the emergence of sustainable research collaborations as well as tangible contributions to global food and agriculture development,” he said.

IJGS is an annual scientific forum initiated by the UGM Faculty of Animal Science as part of its commitment to strengthening cooperation with various universities in ASEAN countries.

The holding of the 7th IJGS marks the continuity of academic cooperation between the UGM Faculty of Animal Science and Maejo University, which has been established through various collaborative programmes, such as student and lecturer exchanges, joint research, and international scientific publications.

“Through IJGS, we want to provide space for postgraduate students to confidently participate in international forums, while encouraging the birth of research collaborations that have a real impact on the development of sustainable livestock and agriculture,” he said.

In its implementation, the 7th IJGS has several objectives, including providing an international scientific forum for postgraduate students, enhancing academic capacity and scientific communication skills, and encouraging cross-border research collaborations, particularly in the ASEAN region.

“In addition, this event also aims to strengthen global academic networks and support the internationalisation of higher education,” he said.
