JAKARTA, KOMPAS.com - The Ambassador of the United Arab Emirates (UAE) to Indonesia, Abdulla Salem Al Dhaheri, stated that the ceasefire between the United States (US), Israel, and Iran is something that has long been advocated by countries in the Middle East region.

“We have always called for de-escalation, ceasefire, and discussions in diplomatic forums; we do not want any escalation,” Abdulla said during a press conference at the UAE Ambassador’s residence in Jakarta on Wednesday (8/4/2026).

Abdulla said that countries in the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) hope that the 14-day ceasefire period ahead can be well utilised by both parties.

“We hope that within these two weeks, we can reach an agreement to bring about stability, so that we can work towards achieving prosperity for our countries,” he added.

“We must see the Strait of Hormuz moving because we do not want to see the destruction of supply chains,” he said.

Abdulla emphasised that no party wants prices of goods to soar and no one wants disruptions that affect their country.

“Disruptions will only set us back. This will not help our countries; no country is immune from this,” he said again.

In the next 14 days, the UAE will strive to be part of the discussions to achieve the best solution.

“And our hope is that the US and Iran can reach a long-term solution that does not impact the region. We want them to bring stability, security, and prosperity to the region,” he concluded.

Quoted from Al Jazeera on Wednesday (8/4/2026), the council emphasised that the ceasefire does not mean the war is over.

“Our finger remains on the trigger, and if the enemy makes the slightest mistake, it will be responded to with full force,” said Iran’s Supreme National Security Council.

Previously reported, US President Donald Trump surprisingly announced a temporary ceasefire agreement with Iran for two weeks.

This decision was made after intensive discussions with Pakistan’s leadership, which acted as a mediator in the US-Israel conflict with Iran.

He set the deadline for Tuesday (7/4/2026) at 20:00 Eastern Time (ET) on the US East Coast, which is Wednesday (8/3/2026) at 03:30 Tehran time, or Wednesday at 07:00 Western Indonesia Time (WIB).
