Two Youth Groups in Cengkareng Clash with Fireworks While Waking Residents for Sahur

Jakarta – A clash between youth groups occurred on Jalan Pasar Timbul, Kapuk, Cengkareng, West Jakarta, following sahur-waking activities on Sunday, 1 March 2026.

In a video shared by the @jakbarviral account, groups of young people could be seen running whilst carrying drums to wake residents for sahur. However, the group appeared to be chased and fired upon with fireworks directed directly at the crowd gathered in a narrow alleyway.

AKP Parman Gultom, head of the criminal investigation unit at Cengkareng Police Station, confirmed the incident occurred. He explained that the clash resulted from a commotion when the two groups encountered each other at Pasar Timbul.

“Yes, so they were waking people for sahur when they went outside their compound and met the other group, resulting in a confrontation,” said Gultom when confirmed by Kompas.com on Tuesday, 3 March 2026.

Fortunately, there were no casualties in the incident, despite the exchange of fireworks. Gultom urged residents to conduct sahur-waking activities within their own neighbourhoods and not extend into other areas.

“We visited the location and advised them to wake people for sahur not too far from their own compounds, as it creates a risk of friction. So every night during Ramadhan we urge them to stay within their compounds and not venture onto main roads,” he explained.

He added that the police will continue to increase night patrols throughout Ramadhan to maintain security and stability in the area. “Our patrols will certainly continue to monitor the situation,” he said.
