Kupang (ANTARA) - Two rogue members of the police in NTT are suspected of involvement in the misuse of subsidised fuel oil (BBM) during the period from February to April 2026. “The two rogue police officers involved have been detained and have been designated as suspects,” said the Director of Special Criminal Investigation (Dirreskrimsus) of the NTT Regional Police, Commissioner Pol Hans Rachmatullah Irawan, to reporters in Kupang on Tuesday. He explained that during that period, 27 cases of subsidised BBM misuse were uncovered, with potential state losses reaching Rp10.16 billion. However, he said, there are still around 40 other perpetrators who could become suspects in the case. The details include 6,325 litres of Pertalite BBM and 9,675 litres of Bio Solar BBM. From the 27 cases, he added, the largest seizure was in Rote Ndao with 3,270 litres of Solar BBM, and in Manggarai with 2,554 litres of Solar BBM and 384 litres of Pertalite. Hans also explained the various methods used by the perpetrators, ranging from modifying vehicle tanks, misusing barcode codes for subsidised BBM, to colluding with rogue petrol station operators. He detailed that the seized evidence includes dozens of vehicles, thousands of litres of Pertalite and Solar BBM, hundreds of jerry cans, as well as documents and cash. In addition, the police also confiscated several four-wheeled vehicles that had been modified in such a way to fill up with subsidised BBM. “Moreover, misuse of recommendation letters from related agencies was also found,” he added.
